Chamber Tailgate Chili Challenge

Please join us in celebrating the spirit of Chesterton High School sports and enjoy their Homecoming Parade while sampling chili prepared by Chamber member restaurants! Restaurants interested in participating may register by calling the Chamber Office. The second annual Chamber Tailgate Chili Challenge is a fun event full of school spirit, delicious chili, beer garden and corn hole right in the Chamber parking lot. Chamber 2010 10-10 Challenge
We are excited to host this program to encourage individuals to continue to shop local and take advantage of what Duneland businesses have to offer. Spend at least $10 with 10 unique Chamber members in a month and enter to win a $50 Chamber Gift Certificate. Dunes Learning Center
Summer’s End Picnic Open House

Dunes Learning Center will host their Summer’s End Picnic Open House at 700 Howe Road in Chesterton, Indiana. The event is free but prior registration is required at www.duneslearningcenter.org. Activities will include live music, short hikes, environmental education displays, and children’s games. Food will also be provided as it lasts. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own chairs, blankets, and snacks. The picnic charged a fee in previous years, but this year Dunes Learning Center decided to open it up to the public. Crime Prevention for Seniors

Porter County Aging & Community Services will host a presentation on “Crime Prevention for Seniors” by Porter County Sheriff, David Lain at Rittenhouse Senior Living (1300 Vale Park Road, Valparaiso). Sheriff Lain will explain ways to avoid being the victim of a crime, when to contact the police, and the resources available through our local police force, etc. This is a free 60 minute presentation that is open to the public. Joe Butler, of Chesterton’s Butler Winery, is offering a free wine tasting exclusively for Molly Bea’s INGREDIENTS’ invitees. There will be samples of the harvest’s finest & of course Joe will be available to answer questions & offer information about wines. We have no presentation just great wine tasting with your very favorite wines for sale. Joe Butler, absolutely knows his wines, having grown up in the family business. Their grapes are grown locally, in Bloomington, where the Butler family lovingly manages its small-batch production. Joe will talk with us about their grapes, wine-making, offer a wine sampling & recommend wines for gift giving. This should be a fabulous evening. No registration is required.

Westchester Township History Museum
Knitting Together

Area knitters are invited to gather in the Brown Mansion parlor for a cozy afternoon of knitting, conversation and refreshments. The event continues the series entitled Knitting Together. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Those who crochet or do needlework are also welcome to attend. The Westchester Township History Museum, an educational and cultural service of Westchester Public Library, is housed in the Brown Mansion at 700 W. Event to Raise Awareness of Ongoing Flood Relief Efforts

September 14, will mark the second anniversary of the floods that affected over 22,000 homes in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties in 2008. LARRI will host commemoration events to “Remember the Past & Hope for the Future” in five locations throughout Northwest Indiana. 9 a.m.- Southside Christian Church, 1000 Broadmoor Ave., Munster, Noon -Gary Neighborhood Services, 300 West 21st Ave., Gary, 3 p.m.- Iglesia de Dios, Church of God, 3950 Marquette Rd., Lake Station, 5 p.m.-Catholic Charities, 321 West 11th Street, Michigan City, 7 p.m. – Frank Gilbert, Jr. Memorial Park, 2775 Willowcreek Road, Portage. Out of the Darkness
2nd Annual Porter County Walk

The 2nd Annual Porter County Walk to benefit Out of the Darkness Community Walks and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The walk is a 5K family event at the Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve here in Chesterton. There will be hotdogs, chips, desserts, and pop and water for sale, 50/50 raffles, a silent auction, music, and activities for the kids. Day of registration is at 12pm and the walk begins after the balloon release at 1pm. Last year they had over 250 participate. For more information please call Lorelei Kerns at (219) 242-1383.

Political pundit Paul Green is best known for his political commentary on WGN. His "Paul and the Pauliticans" segment during the Greg Jarrett Show has become a "listener favorite." Seeking Sponsorship for Emerald City 5K Race
Emerald City 5K Race will be on September 18 2010 in conjunction with the Wizard of Oz Festival. Race starts and ends at Duneland Family YMCA. Also offering two children’s races (prior to the 5K): the Munchkin Run for children up to 6 yrs old and the Flying Monkey Run for children 7-11 yr olds. There will be no charge for the kids races. Certificate in Business Administration
The CBA of IU Northwest is designed to allow those who have already earned, or are about to earn a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in a field other than business to acquire the foundational knowledge needed for success in the business world. The 16 week class starts on September 2nd from 6pm to 9:30pm. The class takes place every Thursday and cost $595 for non-students and $295 for students. Vendor Space Available at Women’s Fair
La Porte Regional Health System invites all area businesses and organizations to join the 9th Annual Women’s Fair™ as vendors. Booth space is available but limited. The high-profile community health event includes quality presentations and demonstrations, free health screenings and valuable health information. The free event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Blue Chip in Michigan City. Women’s Fair is the area’s largest health event, having drawn more than 2,100 women in 2009. Attendance in 2010 is expected to increase even more to fill Blue Chip’s newer 20,000 square-foot Stardust Event Center. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County will host Purdue University’s Robbie Hummel of the Purdue Boilermaker Basketball team at this year’s 11th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner on September 30 at the Porter County Expo Center. Silent auction and registration begin at 5:15 p.m. and the main program will begin promptly at 6 p.m. running until 8 p.m. Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet Robbie Hummel and share an evening with an outstanding Club member in your community!
